I used to Think, But now I know
I used to think…. But now I know
I used to think macaroni and cheese was the best,
Now I know shrimp Alfredo is.
The delicious creaminess of macaroni and cheese is good, yes
But, doesn’t amount to a plate of shrimp Alfredo-y mess
I used to think life was a breeze
But now I know it’s not over yet.
It hits you in the side of the head
When you least expect the storm to come
Kicks you in the back of the shins before you have time to run
Poisons all your favorite foods
Before you even lick the plate
And bites you in the back of the ear
So you go through life… and you can’t hear
I used to think poems never end,
That you are always at the beginning
You read each stanza, cry each tear
And yet you never reach the rear
You finish the end however you choose
No matter the end you make the rules…
