Silence.

Hues of deep blue and purple dissolve my surroundings,
Slowly making the images around me indiscernible.
Aggressive arguments, miscommunications, political disputes.
All sounds dull to a low, soft hum
And all I hear is a piano’s song.
Anger, the fire that dances into lives,
The poison that slowly asphyxiates all love,
Consumes all in its path with a greedy passion.
The cunning and aggressive disease of falsehood
Infects and dismembers all sense of truth,
Leaving hearts and minds numb and unresponsive.
Kind words, gentle gestures, loving service.
Warmth floods souls and develops character,
Like the sun’s rays penetrate the petals of a rose and tenderly pull them open.
Hands bright with wisdom and caring understanding
Launch the ones they help into the sky of success with their deeds.
These kind actions are watercolors of the night,
Slowly blurring the anger and heat of the day.
Like a piano’s song, they overtake all surrounding noise
Until all that’s left is society’s silence.

As the twinkling stars appear across the inky blue sky, I close my tired, heavy eyelids
And dance gracefully into the safe haven of peace.
