Shadow
My shadow follows me.
Wherever I go it’s there.
Well-
Not everywhere.
But most of the time,
My shadow won’t leave me alone
It follows at my heels,
Like a relentless, pesky animal.
Sometimes my shadow is behind me,
And I forget all about it.
I focus on what I’m doing,
Keeping the shadow out of my mind.
But it’s still there.
And sometimes my shadow is in front of me.
That’s the worst
Because I am constantly aware of it.
But there is one way to escape my shadow,
At least for a while.
I stay in the dark.
When I’m in the dark I can trick my shadow.
It disappears into the rest of the darkness.
And the relief I feel,
Is worth the pain of the darkness.
But with the sun, my shadow returns.
So I struggle through the day,
With my shadow in toe.
As I wait for the relief the darkness brings.
