-War-
We shook hands on the battlefield
Neither of us wanted to lose
Lose our pride
Lose our friend
Trying to be cold and strong
And be a gray slate of wall
We were taught not to lose
Not to quit
Not to show weakness
We were built strong
But we knew where to fire a direct hit
We knew how to sink the other’s ship
This was war
Where the blood and tears never showed
But allowed silence to cut deep
And twist the steely knife of grief
We still saw each other’s glow
How we knew the other’s heart was home
So we shook hands on the battlefield
Making a promise to never leave
Never abandon one another regardless how bad it seems
Forever accepting it’s okay to not be alright
And say I love you at the end of the fight
To call at 3:00 in the morning to tell each and every little thing
It didn’t matter how slight
To say yes to raising the white flag
So we shook each other’s hand
