If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

If I lost you
If you left me
My world would burn
And I could not flee

Ashes like snowflakes
Would fall to the ground
Smothering my sorrow
To try and make it drown

And this city would fall
If I ever lost you
Because you make me whole
You know that you do.

The sky would
Set itself alight
Blanketed by ashes
The city would burn bright

From the sky
Fire would fall
And like my misery
It would consume all

So beware the day
Should you ever depart
Because havok would be wrought
By this broken heart

August 23, 79 AD

The author's comments:
I was thinking about Pompeii the other day and how sad it was, and decided to incorporate a story of heartbreak into the destruction. The date, August 23rd, is the day before Mount Vesuvius erupted.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

I love your poem. The rhyming was perfect and done in just the right fashion! Quite honestly, I don't usually like other writers' works so much but you did a really good job with this. :)
