Everything that is done in the world is done by hope.

We thought we were right.
We thought we could win
Against our powerful enemies,
By straying from our path.

But as a man once said,
“How could we?”

We thought we had help
From fallen enemies.
To help us win this war
Against the new threats.

But as a man once said,
“How could we?”

We thought we were strong
That by our strength we won battles
That we could take on,
everyone at once.

But as a man once said,
“How could we?”

So now we are defeated.
Taken away from our home,
To a place that is unfamiliar,
To a people that are unknown.

And we wish that that man would say,
"How could we?"

Hey Netnel! Nice poem! Your spelling is really good all throughout. I do see that there is some misplaced punctuation (forexample, in some places where there should be commas, there are periods). I really enjoyed the repition of 'How could we?' in this piece. I found that it made it more compelling. Great Job!
