"I'm nobody! Who are you?" -Emily Dickinson

She donned her gowns
Puffs of silk- a confection,
Brushed her hair
Till it gleamed with perfection.
She winked at the mirror,
At her lovely reflection-
Cinderella.

She entered the ball
And all eyes did swerve,
Her lovely young figure
And slender smooth curves.
The prince came running,
She brought out his inner perv-
Cinderella.

In under two minutes
He was in love,
No conversation needed,
Beauty was enough.
The ugly snotty stepsisters
Left in a huff-
Cinderella.

Just stop and realize
This is a sham!
Looks don’t fetch happiness
It’s a media scam.
Don’t be fooled
By the superficial glam-
By Cinderella.

The author's comments:
This poem has a history. My ninth grade english teacher assigned us to write an essay, and I wrote mine about fairy tales. About the twisted morals that we portray. In every fairy tale, the women is weak and must wait for a prince to rescue her. Beauty is what wins Happily Ever After for all our lovely heroines. Etcetera. I brought the example of Cinderella, and my friend got into a whole argument with me about it. She didn't like me dissing dear Cindy. So I randomly wrote this poem during class, and slipped it over the desk. She liked it... (but not the point.)
Please rate and comment, and sorry about my babbling! (I tend to do that sometimes...)

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.

This is so intriguing, especially because you bring out an aspect of an old fairy tale that no one has thought about before. A suggestion to improve it; maybe you could've sneaked in the "shallowness" of looks in the previous stanzas as well. As in, while I'm reading the poem, I'm all like "Oh cool, Cinderella is good and beautiful, HA to the ugly stepsisters", so the last stanza comes as a bit of a surprise; it isn't consistent with the rest of the poem so it takes away from the experience a little bit, because you don't expect it to be a satire. But this is great, I'm just nitpicking here. :)

Thank you very much! I love the way you said this is a "satirical piece on society" and suddenly I'm like hey, I wrote a satirical piece on society! Sheesh, who knew I was that cool?
