Cycling
Life is kind of like a bike ride on a bumpy road.
Rocky, you’ll peddle your way along it the best you can,
But no matter how prepared you are for the road ahead,
You’ll find yourself stumbling.
You’ll fall several times,
Get back up even more,
And no matter how scarred you become,
You’ll always be told to get right back up and strive for a smoother ride.
Sometimes your destination will seem out of reach,
With corners that hide the way,
And hills that seem like mountains-
One sight and you lose your drive.
Life’s a path that’s traveled quickly:
Time will race as fast the wind and
You’ll be hurt,
Thrilled,
And sometimes,
Left breathless.
You see,
The unknown sneaks up on you.
Like a trek through a haunted house,
You will search for what you do not know.
Sometimes you won’t have a map and you’ll render helpless in the dark,
With only the light left in your eyes
To help you find the way.
Through the breaks in the grey clouds
You’ll see hills of green, dream of blue skies,
And be shaken by storms from the ground beneath you.
You’ll begin to wonder why your legs aren’t broken,
And with the sky lit with fire,
You’ll wish to just be struck.
A loving guide, with its open arms of light,
You’ll look up to the sun,
And even on the days that shine you still know
You risk becoming burned.
Peddling on, you’ll stop and pick some flowers-
Your face lit in all its beauty,
You’ll learn to appreciate life’s little things
And your heart will fill with the shades of gold
It has long whispered for.
Along the way you’ll cross paths with travellers just like you-
Scraped knees, scarred hearts,
Where you’ll learn to love and be loved:
You’ll leave some in the dust,
And sometimes they’ll leave you.
And in the end your eyes will shed its tears
As you heart mends itself over again,
Each time leaving you
To blaze another trail.
A compass, not a listed supply for life’s ways,
Cause the rocky road will always take you for a ride-
Because no matter what,
The good and bad will lie along the same path.
We learn,
We grow,
And we push onward:
Past the bumps,
Around the corners,
Up the hills
And into the skies that lie our dreams,
For it is our dreams
that make our
lives.
