The Purple Frog
I am dirty and damaged
My skin is peeled and burnt; the residual
Evidence of what they’ve done to me during ‘play time’.
My skin is a ghastly shade of purple; they call me a freak.
I am the ruler of the freak toys. I command them with
The sheer terror I offer from my nasty features.
My right hand is frozen in a stop gesture.
I want them to stop picking me. I don’t want
To be the played, the used, the abused.
I want to be the cherished, the love, the adored.
Silently pleading for a day off
Secretly praying this will be the end
And I won’t be toyed with anymore.
What will you tear from me today?
Will you take more of me to keep in your treasure?
Or will today be
The last day I am tormented?
