The Edge
The Edge.
Those two words seem to illicit a fear in us humans.
How does one describe it?
It feels,
No,
It is
Exhilarating, exciting, enchanting, alive, obscure, fearful, necessary, unnecessary,
All at the same time.
We humans,
We live so close to the Edge,
That we do not realize it is there.
All it takes is one bad day,
One bad thought,
One bad feeling,
To push us over the Edge and into the Abyss.
The Abyss frightens us,
It yearns for us,
It scares us,
But we long for it.
For what good is a gamble if there is no downside?
The Abyss is a place full of
Misery, woe, horrible, unspeakable acts of terror.
Yet it is somehow a warm, homely place, full of your favorite things in life,
And full of the most caring people you could ever wish to meet.
Most people don’t seem to notice if they go off the Edge,
Deep, deep into the Abyss,
That they don’t lose themselves.
They find themselves.
A sure footing, a crumbling rock,
A loose hold, a firm hand.
All will make you fall into the Abyss.
These people do not know what true loss is.
Loss is not when you lose a loved one;
That, in my mind, is simply an emptiness.
If you fall into the Abyss, you do not seem to realize that those barriers,
Placed oh so carefully there,
Were never there.
No one was there to stop you.
From falling, falling, falling,
Forevermore.
Deep into the Abyss’ loving, caring, touching arms.
