Tick, tick, tick
The pocket watch of your heart
Ticks
As you slumber
On cushions of searing reality
Wrapped in a blanketed dream.

Your paper thin skin
Ripples with each
Spurt of inhalation
While hair-covered ears
Run to and fro
Listening to the unheard.

Sleepy rainwater warmth runs
Off of you in waves.
And a tongue lulling
Like the unconscious brain
Click, click, clicks
Between sharp stone teeth
Under a dry nose.

Time slows in
Sealed pearl eyes
And claws twitch
Slightly to the rhythm
Of the
Tick, tick, tick.
Time halts.
