Where I'm From
I am Summer sun, from fresh smell of cut grass and the light breeze.
I am from the little cottage along the lake.
I am from the heart flower bush, the tall pine trees that shade the cottage.
I am from the family sunday night dinners and the dimples on my face, from Jean and Dave and The Catania’s.
I am from the loud talking family and friendly family too.
From being told not to talk to strangers and to look both ways before crossing a street.
I am from a Northern Baptist church.
I’m from Milwaukee and a city in Sicily, Homemade meatballs and canellos
From the Italian fest being a family reunion, the homemade cookies my grandma would buy. We exchange stories of our past to each other.
I am from the photos in my Grandma’s dining room cabinets where they sit and get old.
