what is poetry?

is it random rhymes we fit together and hope make sense?

or something to calm ourselves down when we feel tense.

is it our inner feelings coming out?

or something we use to rant and shout i

guess it all depends on who you ask

a man of poor standing or a man of high class

because poetry has no fixed definition

and sometimes just hits you

like a crazed premonition

some say its for the stressed

or for the lovers

or the depressed

but poetry has no fixed definition

and can be used by any man on a mission

with words that mean what they say

and keep there meaning day after day

and rhymes that are prettier then then any girl

and truths so shocking they'll make you wanna hurl

because poetry has no fixed definition

but can fit in any tradition

religious superstitious prejudicions

you name it,

poetry will find a way to say it

and poetry will go on and on

like the sinking of the sun and the rise of dawn.

and the words that poets write will continue to ring continue to fight.

and the rhymes that poets say

will continue to be said day after day

and the feeling that poems portray

will continue to be felt in the very same way

because poetry like music is timeless

and some poetry like music is rhymeless

but words will always carry there weight

and maybe poets are the design of fate

but poetry has no fixed definition

and can mean more then a presidents decision

It is better to write for yourself and have no audience than write for your audience and have no self.

very clever, and with several good points. poetry can be anything, it depends on how you read it. Keep writing!!
