I have to come back to you,
To the smooth surface and cool touch
To the distraction and interaction
To escape in other’s lives

Bright lights and I feel alive
Connect in a moment, I try to hide
Behind the keys
And the screens
But I can’t, not for very long

White striped curtains, where
Cracked dandelion light shines through
Reach for it,
I need it,
From the instant I’m aware

I can’t think and stare, not for a second,
I don’t dare, I would shatter.

This poem employs a Petrachan conceit, comparing an unhealthy relationship to our relationships with the technology that surrounds us.
