Morning Glories
Blooming by morning
Closed by night
How can we live in such uncertainty?
Your heart thumps against mine
The beat steadies
and I hear it pound
but you're guarded,
holding back,
precision used to taste like home.
We're not the same as we used to be
Even in your radiant presence
the emptiness envelopes me
Picking daisies has turned to picking fights.
And I'll have you know
Indifference is resistance
Stability's not sanity
And madness is not a state
I'd like to keep.
It's late, I know
Time hasn't kept
But wilting is inevitable
Your petals closed
And so did mine.
