He sits in a pew with his family
As the preacher shouts bible verses and tilts a deceiving eye toward the ceiling
He watches as his parents nod their heads
And the curtains at the front of the church ripple
And then he looks down at his small black shoes
The only pair that have ever shone
He listens as the man talks about corruption and damnation
Yet he’s seen the blood-stained stairwells of the church
And he wonders if lying is a deadly sin

Wow...beautiful. Incredibly written, it's almost impossible to describe the feeling you so eloquently push across. You have a talent of simplicity that I wish I could accomplish.

Favorite Quote:
First dentistry was painless.
Then bicycles were chainless,
Carriages were horseless,
And many laws enforceless.

Next cookery was fireless,
Telegraphy was wireless,
Cigars were nicotineless,
And coffee caffeineless.

Soon oranges were seedless,
The putting green was weedless,
The college boy was hatless,
The proper diet fatless.

New motor roads are dustless,
The latest steel is rustless,
Our tennis courts are sodless,
Our new religion — godless.

oh wow! this was good. i am a strong christian believer, and whether or not you meant it to be, the meaning i got out of this was that alot of people who claim to be christians and go to church do not act like it except on sunday (if your lucky) and Easter and Christmas (and sometimes not even then). there is alot of problems with church, and most churches preform like buisnesses and not what they should be.  thanks for the awesome poem!
