When your feet hit the stage,
You are not a completely different person
It is true that you take on a different persona
Fitting each character
Molding into the role you were born to play
But instead of hiding behind your character as if it is a door
You use it as a window
I know you are not faking your confidence
Or the way you seem so happy
Try and brush it off
I know you will
But that doesn’t make what I’m saying lies
It is the pull of the gravity
Of a different atmosphere than ours
That takes the things that make you you
And lead them under the light of the moon
And you care
I can see that you care so much by many things:
The way you put thought behind your actions,
Offering your cast mates comforting touches,
When you fidget with your hands,
When you do things like popping your collar and walking
With undeniable arrogance in your step
And when you sway like the wind is blowing
Clutching the bottle in your hands like salvation
No one can say you are not invested
You may not be the main character
But in this story,
You are to me
I’m not sure if you would acknowledge what you do with your talent
But when you stand there,
Proud of what you do,
You are so passionate
The fire in your eyes is the most burning color
I want it to lace itself around my skin
And seep through into my bones

When your gaze catches mine
In the blackness of the audience
My mind stutters
Because surely you can’t be looking at me
There is no recognition in your eyes
But the fire is still there
Smoldering and warm
How have I not melted?

So in the time before you hang your character up
On a coatrack to be looked at with fondness
I will watch you in the awe of an audience member
And I will pretend that passion is just for me
