Have you ever taken Dramamine?
You know – the motion sickness drug they sell
at Walgreens, magic in a package.
It does something strange to you –
makes time feel warped and convoluted,
makes you feel drowsy and somehow safer.
I know because I took it once
on a plane
30,000 miles in the air
sitting next to you
by chance.
The medicine’s magic effect traveled
through my blood and soothed
my stomach, dimming its
fluorescent churning, but I must’ve confused it
with my heart lighting up.
I laid my drowsy Dramamine head on your shoulder
and that was the beginning.
But then the Earth passed twice around the sun –
time was warped and convoluted.
We fell in love in the clouds,
but then convoluted clouds moved in on us
and our strange drowsy love was gone.
That was
the end.
I somehow
don’t feel
safe anymore.
The Earth is spinning, my mind is racing,
my heart is aching and beating and churning
and all this Motion
is making me sick.
I miss
Dramamine.
