Broken Wing
Running through the playground,
rocks crunch beneath her feet, as dust
sinks in-between her toes.
She’s first to her favorite:
the one at just the right height,
no rust to stain her angel hands,
she clutches tight.
Her bruised eyes seal shut
as she pushes off
to soar higher and higher
into the midday sun;
wishing to escape into clouds
her wings cannot reach.
When she flies, she’s
invincible.
He wouldn’t dare lay a finger.
Reality, pain,
vanish.
Alone;
in the
solitude
she craves.
