Sealed Shut

I have piles and piles of boxes filled to the rim,
Pushed away in the corner.
Maybe one day I’ll sort through them,
Blow off the dust and peel the tape.
The contents inside frighten me,
For I don’t know what these boxes hold.
Ghosts, demons, and Satan himself could pop out unexpectedly like a jack in the box.

I guess I’ll keep these boxes sealed shut in their sacred corner.
I guess I’ll keep my mind sealed shut,
refusing to see the possibilities they may hold.

I wrote this poem while thinking about my future and the whole college application process. It all seems so frightening and uncertain, and the boxes in this poem are symbolic of the scary possibilities that the future holds.
