Popsicles
I
Bright Red Cherry Popsicles,
The favorite in the box.
The perfect thing on a hot summer’s day.
Shared by two laughing children,
Playing happily in the backyard.
The girls who will be best friends forever.
Young and naïve,
They don’t know there are better flavors,
They don’t know kids starve and don’t get any at all.
They are happy as things are,
Without a care in the world.
Sticky and sweet.
Lick Switch Smile.
II
Sour Green Lime Popsicles,
Slimy and tangy on your tongue.
But still you enjoy the torcher.
Still refreshing on a hot summer’s day.
Your friends have abandoned you?
That’s ok, find new ones.
It’s easy when you’re young.
You still see her once in a while,
Even if you’re not her favorite.
So just tough it up and be strong.
Continue though it hurts.
Sticky and tart.
Lick Switch Smile.
III
Liquid Blue Melted Popsicles,
Something nobody wants.
Left alone on a hot summer’s day.
Dripping like tears after a loved one’s death.
Wishing desperately for friendship,
But its nowhere to be found.
Struggling through the pain,
With no one to confide in.
But still, act strong.
Just in case someone might be watching.
Somebody to impress.
Sticky and gooey.
Lick Switch Smile.
IV
Mysterious Colorful Rainbow Popsicles,
You never know which flavor will be next.
You may not like them all,
But it will be over before you know it.
On to the next.
Sometimes you get your favorite,
Delighted by your luck.
But no matter what you are happy,
The surprise is half the fun.
There are opportunities everywhere,
No longer always alone.
Sticky and optimistic.
Lick Switch Smile.
