“I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.”
― Marilyn Monroe

As the snow lightly falls speck of white cover my coat,
Feeling like a stranger I peer in on a family…my family
Their eyes sparkle with a happiness you hardly see.
Laughing and playing enjoying their evening
My stomach gets tighter the more I watch
I don’t belong her…is my first thought
It’s Christmas Eve; use to love this time of year
I observe from the outside a family tradition
And search for a memory in attempt to relate
Each member unwraps a gift excitedly, minus one
There’s an exchange of hugs and gratitude’s
I ponder the thought that it once wasn’t like this
I steal one last glance at the picture perfect family
Cuddled up together all nice and warm
Contently watching A Christmas Carol
Do they notice the night does not include me?
I’m different then they
Are, don’t fit in quite right
It’s why I stood alone outside the window that night.
