I Could Tell Lies
I could tell you that I hate you.
I could tell you I just think of you as a friend.
I could tell you the thought of us together is ridiculous
But should I lie to you?
I could tell you I don't care when you don't show up for me.
I could tell you it doesn't give me a warm feeling when you complement me.
I could tell you I don't think of you at all.
No. I shouldn't lie.
I could tell you it doesn't hurt me when I see you with her.
I could tell you I don't want to stare into your eyes forever.
I could tell you the sight of you sad doesn't make me sad as well.
But I won't. Because that's a lie.
I could tell you I won't take your secrets to the grave when you confide in me.
But I'd be lying.
I could tell you I'm not mad when someone hurts you.
But that would be a lie.
I could tell you that I don't care.
But I can't lie.
I could tell you this poem isn't about you-
Well, I could. But what would you think then?
You'd think I'm a liar.
Am I?
