Eternal Disappointment
Are you happy, my dear?
For I cannot tell,
As your screams and laughter sound frighteningly similar now.
And your eyes – oh, how they shine! Like silver knives in the moonlight.
But are they bright with bliss or tears?
And the luminosity of your smile is blinding me- it’s killing me.
Is it killing you?
Our frail shells were not designed to contain such power,
And I can see how it drains you,
With your glittering eyes and explosive lips,
Both ringed with gloomy shadows,
Tainted with plum-colored darkness.
And your skin tells your story better than any word ever could,
Growing paler as you grow weaker,
Day by day.
And your eyes are hungry
As they endlessly glance about.
Each day you run to me,
Your voice breaking with every other word,
And you tell me all your thoughts, which flood my brain entirely.
“I want to sparkle like him,
“To charm like her,
“To dazzle like them.”
And it’s a new desire every single day, my darling.
You are forever trying on new faces.
And I blame you not,
For I know why your wishes are ever-changing and omnipresent:
It would fracture your spirit to smile sincerely.
But it pains me all the time, whilst I witness you simply lying there;
It is a grand shame that a gem such as yourself is to be wasted.
My love, you are enough.
