What about my heart?
‘Follow your heart’ they said
Impossible I think to myself
How can I follow my heart?
It is locked away in a chest
‘You have a heart of stone’ they said
Garbage I think to myself
Why would I be here?
If I had a rock at my core
‘Listen to your heart’ they said
Nonsense I think to myself
How can I listen to my heart?
It is too far to hear
‘He has a heart of gold’ they said
Deception I think to myself
How could he be so kind?
If he had a gemstone in its place
‘Be true to your heart’ they said
Lies I think to myself
How can I be true to something?
When all it does is break
‘Let it come from the heart’ they said
Fools I think to myself
How can I let it come from there?
When I must tear it out to glimpse it
‘Have you no heart?’ they said
I have I think to myself
Why would I be here to yell at?
If I had not a heart
‘You have a broken heart’ they said
Not possible I think to myself
Why would I be here crying?
If it were shattered like a glass
