Mama, Im here alone
Scared as can be.
You're on the living
room floor out cold.

Mama, I am on my
way to daddy's now.
I miss you already

Mama its my first birth
-day with out you, i need
you here by my side.

Mama Im in fourth grade
I am a Junior Police Officer,
I hope you're proud.

Mom, I graduated from
elementary school. I wish
you were there to see me.

Mom, I made it to rank
one in ninth grade!
I just might be valedictorian,
wont you be proud!

I met this boy today Mom,
I like him & he likes me (I think),
don't worry I'll remember our talks.

I got accepted into a summer
program mom, and guess what...
Its at STANFORD!

I wish you were here,
I need you near.
And yet you being here
is my worst fear.

The author's comments:
This is a poem about a girl who loses her mother in a drug overdose... She states her milestones in life wishing her mom were there for them. She fears her mom being their though because she feels if she were the great things that happened to her would have happened.

So simple, yet makes my throat go dry with sadness.
