Petals
pure,
and soft
as pillows
Immediately
your attention
is obtained
Until you try to reach,
attempt to touch-
The jointed needles
scratch your skin,
Forever scarred.
Still you try,
though denied.
Realize this rose
has seen the effect
of secateurs.
She will not be cut.
Rationalize:
she must smell of dung-
She isn’t stung:
already terrorizing
the next pair
of wandering eyes
