Patience
i cannot remember
how i came to be
with my best friend,
Patience.
for all i know,
i’ve been arrogant,
forbidding others
to achieve first place.
i’ve been lost,
crossing at each dead end
of every maze.
i’ve been insecure,
locking myself in a cell,
without the key.
for all i know.
i cannot forget
the many times
she
pulls me away before trouble begins,
leads a red thread to the finish line,
and fetches the key.
and
when the time comes
i will honor,
my two-syllable friend,
with capital case letters.
my unforgettable two-syllable friend,
Patience.
