Headlights at my Window
There’s headlights at my window,
He’s coming in for sure,
Not that I don’t want him,
Just that I am scared.
There’s headlights at my window,
What he wants I don’t question,
The door is bolted against the wind,
If I stay still he won’t hear me.
There’s headlights at my window,
Wondering if I could make it to the door,
Or If he’d see me running,
Make me stay and wait.
There’s headlights at my window,
My dress I know is short,
Not how I would have picked it,
But not at all my choice.
There’s headlights at my window,
I hear his footsteps coming,
What if the door gives in,
He’ll surely know I’m here.
There’s headlights at my window,
Crawling under the bed,
I hear his boots against the door,
Every ominous thud.
There’s headlights at my window,
He’s coming up the stairs,
My breath so short, heart so loud,
He must hear me now.
There’s headlights at my window,
The things that I regret,
My past seems so haunted,
My future even worse.
There’s headlights at my window,
How I got here I don’t know,
Wish I’d chosen differently,
A couple thousand times.
There’s headlights at my window,
Nothing I can I do now,
Off to make the days wages,
In a way you wouldn't approve.
There’s headlights at my window,
Tears stream down my face,
Rough hands against me pulling,
Giving light to my shame.
There’s headlights at my window,
But they can’t reach my eyes,
Ive shut the world out,
Because darkness doesn’t hurt.
