Little by Little
You struck me, little by little.
The first day, a sentence –
that captivated me,
consumed my thoughts,
threw you into a new light.
Next, a phone call –
made by my tears to you,
and you listened silently,
but reassuringly.
And after, a hug –
one that went on a little too long,
a little too tight,
a little too close,
and a little too perfect.
You struck me, little by little,
a small step at a time,
another piece added,
one more brick laid.
Until one day, all at once –
so fast that I almost missed it –
I realized, within me,
a love had grown
and it wasn’t so little.
