Thoughts to Ponder By Moonlight
I am the light that lovers bask in;
the soft white glow that highlights
her pale skin and his dark eyes,
as they complete themselves
by adding the other.
I am what fell down on them,
as she made his whole world shine;
the analogy made between now and forever…
the romantic lighting they craved.
I watched their love grow under me.
I am the superhero he swore to her;
the promises made late at night…
I am the moonlight that overtook them;
the stars that burned bright,
and died slowly with them.
I am the thumb-sized hope she wished on;
the only constant in her life,
nestled between stars and sky…
She cries up to me, asking why.
She's lost her lover.
I am the muse he abuses;
his written loneliness draws us together.
Because the light he once basked in
has gone with the break of day.
I've vanished, with his lover.
