If nothing else, believe in art.

You smooth your crisp white shirt,
And flatten down your collar.
You put on a brave face,
Although your heart feels hollow.
Your brown eyes sparkle,
Not with joy, but instead with tears.
Your firmly planted frown,
Conceals your inner fears.
You’ve never let anyone come,
Close enough to do you wrong.
You shelter all your weaknesses,
With a false sense of being strong.
Your hearts too used to losing love,
To even risk another try.
Because for your every greeting,
Comes too quickly, your good bye.
I want to be the one to change that,
Though you say that you’re okay.
Right then I felt your helplessness.
But…there has to be a way.
You stare at your feet,
As you turn your back to me.
I can hear you’re crying now,
And you don’t want me to see.
I lightly grasp your shoulders,
“It’s okay, don’t be ashamed”.
And as you cry I curse the life
Of that-girl-who-shall-not-be-named.

Though I can't say there is one specific inspiration for this piece, I know that my heart wanted me to write this, and who was I to argue with a heart?
