when i was born you were there
when i was young you went away
when i was older i cried
when i died i saw you again
i may still be young
my heart may still be hurting
my eyes may have tears sometimes
but my soul is still large
people may not know what it is like
i know and that is all that matters
when i was born i didn't know you
when i was young i loved you
when i was older i missed you
when i died i was happy to see you

both grandparents died when i was young and i wrote this shortly after my grandfather died. in loving memory.
