As the days turn in on me,
As my age seems to catch up to me,
In my reality,
And in my mind.
Flashbacks of years past come back to me,
The ways I once lived,
The memories I just rediscovered,
The silly childish things,
That once made me,
And I miss it.
I remember when the days seemed to last forever,
The nights even longer,
I remember dreaming about this time,
About being this age,
And how I rushed it,
Wanting to leave my childhood behind,
Something I want to go on now.
Something I don’t want to lose now,
Though it’s happening right before my eyes,
And I don’t know what to do.
As the days turn in on me,
As my age seems to catch up to me,
In my reality,
And in my mind.
I think about the days,
That my hardest decision was,
What I wanted for lunch,
Who was my best friend for the day,
Who was my sworn enemy,
Who was getting married on the playground,
Who my husband was in “house.”
And as the memories of past days,
Past lives,
Past adventures come back to me,
I miss them,
And wished they never would have ended,
And yet their ending,
Each day grows closer to the end,
Of childhood.
And as I relize this truth,
Another part of me,
A dormant part,
At this point in time,
Is exited.
Exited for what will be,
What I will be.
As the days turn in on me,
As my age seems to catch up to me,
In my reality,
And in my mind,
A connection that was never there before,
Is finally there.
