shatter
When you’re sitting at a very nice formal restaurant
And your dress is very tight in all the wrong places, and your back itches where you can’t itch it and your neck feels hot
and all around you are people sitting up straight, murmuring among themselves about higher-up things you feel you’ll never understand
and the dishes look like pieces of art, almost a shame to eat
and the napkins are folded into whimsical swirls
and there are four forks and five knives and six spoons and you don’t know what to do with yourself and you’re looking around trying to see what other people are doing with their utensils and you awkwardly catch someone’s eye and you smile awkwardly
do you ever get the feeling
you want to punch the table
and make it shatter?
