Fishing with my friends,
by the ol' river bed
Gettin' eggs from the hens,
near our creeky shed
Mamma used to cook me
my own special pie,
And Papa used to agree,
even if it was with a sigh
I first kissed Jane,
by that stack of hay
It drove her insane,
but I would just say:
Oh my darlin', Oh my darlin',
It's been so long since that day,
When we saw that starling,
Fly far, far away
Those youthful years,
spent so long ago,
Appear to be,
all that I know
