Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust. -- Lawrence M. Krauss

I am a girl,
ready to explode
into emptiness.
A piece of ice
ready to melt
unnoticed
into nothing.

Desperately grabbing
reality
trying to not go
insane

trying to find
who I am.

I reflect
an unclear image
of who
you want me to be.
Trapped,
caged,
in the distorted image
of who I am.

I scream,
I thrash,
I claw
my way
until I
momentarily
escape
from the bonds
that you have
caught me in.

When I do,
I dance,
and sing,
and express
who I am.
Free from
everything
I am not.

The author's comments:
I go to a school where we have to put all of our work in a book called a portfolio at the end of the year. I had to make a personal statement, which is a document that explains who I am. This poem was a part of explaining that.
