The coolness is like the crack of a whip.
I try to leave but can’t escape from here.
I stiffly thought why is it so cold here?

The ice rains down on my heart and freezes.
My hand touches the place where my heart was.
I stiffly thought why is it so cold here?

The cruel wind whips and whooshes past my face.
Coldness freezes and chaps my tender flesh.
I stiffly thought why is it so cold here?

I exhale and warmth eagerly leaves me.
The foggy breath is overcome with cold.
I stiffly thought why is it so cold here?

The weight of cold air crushes my spirit.
All hope seems to have frozen out of me.
I stiffly thought why is it so cold here?

A light ahead of me glows bright and warm.
The further I go the warmer I get.
Then I thought maybe it’s not so cold here.

My teacher had us write either a poem or a short story for a contest. This is what I turned in. Constructive criticism is welcome for all my stuff.
