Winter Sparrows
The sky is dark,
Silence lingers.
Winter’s coldness clings to sleeping trees.
Sparrows perch on leaf-less branches
Like plums.
Some hop aimlessly on the city’s cold pavement
Looking for food.
Do the sparrows sing less
Brightly in winter’s cold?
Or are my windows closed?
