"Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody." -J.D. Salinger, Catcher in the Rye

With the noise of scattered rain
My weary soul
Escapes my brain
And sticks itself onto a drop
Just to hear the final plop
Of raindrops as they plow the ground
Where a distant echoing sounds
Of my head grown to the clouds
And clearer than it’s ever been.

With the staggering final breath
From laughing lips
All air has left
But soon it’s found I need it not
Free to laugh until teeth rot
Without the breath that held me so
Tethered to people and earth below
And still my little legs will grow
With knowledge that I’ve gathered in.

With my legs sunk into earth
I can’t be swayed
By human’s worth
Only the strength I find in words
Can make me truly reassured
Though such detachment cannot pass
Disinterest fallen in my lap,
Still resentment comes to last
Against the men who now know sin.

With my heart sewn into sky
There isn’t doubt
That I can fly
Beyond the guide of what I’ve known
When weighted down by mortal bones
But parting still is bittersweet
Because the sun brings only heat
And simple minds I love to meet.
They make a little girl feel big.

"I learned that you should feel when writing, not like Lord Byron on a mountain top, but like a child stringing beads in kindergarten - happy, absorbed and quietly putting one bead on after another." Brenda Ueland

Ignite, LOVED your poem.
I especially loved the line,
"With my heart sewn into sky
There isn’t doubt
That I can fly"

Very beautiful!! Keep writing!
