We Were Friends
The slamming of the door still rings in my ears.
Your hurtful words echo in my mind.
My broken heart, shattered on the floor.
You were never nice to me anyways.
I was going to end our friendship.
I glare at the shirt, neatly folded on my bed.
I grabbed it, opened the window and threw it as far away from me as I could.
I did not want you in my life anymore.
You were bad.
Mad woman, they’d say.
I can’t believe I used to stand up for you, when you never returned the favor.
Do you remember what I look like?
Because when you see me, you stare, like you knew me in another life.
I’m guessing that’s because when we were friends, we were living different lives than the ones we are living today.
