To Take Flight
I’ve watched your quarrel.
Stood between your fights.
Heard your cries of fitful fright.
Dawned a new morning -after- painful night.
Yet you yearn for those dark times,
Wishing they’d last longer.
She enjoyed your voice as you raise it ever stronger.
The fists that flew from wall to wall.
I graze my hands against your falls.
You’re ashamed yet bemused,
Not only angry with yourself.
But fitful and dark not caring for either’s health.
You both bear scars that don’t seem to fade,
But neither care, it reminds of better days.
I still watch from a distance,
Yet stand in the middle of your feud.
I’m sick of these nights becoming more than few.
You yell, she screams, and both seem to feint.
Into a darker self, or into deeper pain.
You can’t be apart, yet can’t be together.
Make up your mind!
Stop ripping out feathers!
You’re both so bald and cruel, I know.
You freeze in the night.
Gripping for each other and attempt to take flight.
