A prayer to a hidden man
A prayer lost in silence
Hoping for a better day
Gone unanswered
A prayer, a trust in faith
To an unproven god
Master of forgotten words
A prayer, a wish
For things not had
For a world beyond pain
Or war, or hunger
A place of fantasy
Hoped for but unrealized,
My prayer
A cry of desperation
Anguish thick in my throat
Beginning to drown
Struggling in the waves
The waves of despair
My hope suffocates
Gives up the fight
And fades
Into an unanswered prayer
My mother, a saint
Who deserves much more
More than her suffering
I hear her screams in the dead of night
There’s nothing I can do
Just watch and pray
The grave looms in sight
The angel of death draws near
To take her away
All I can do is cry and pray.
