She asks you something but you don't quite hear it
You have been asked this question millions of times
But your response can never be the same
Little girls say princess, young boys say firefighter
Warm maternal fingers run through your hair
You are asked this question once again
This really means something
You take a deep breath in and smile
And answer

I love this, especially if you read it like I did, and did not read your comment until after. You did a wonderful job in writing this poem by describing the question in such a way that we did not have to be told what you were talking about. I love it!! :)
