Fire Fights Water
I said, “Please” and you said, “No.”
The sun never shone and the moon never rose.
I cried water, but you spat fire.
You told me, “That’s the way it goes.”
I ripped out your heart and placed it with mine.
Together we both began to cry.
You didn’t have my love; I didn’t have your soul.
Was I with you or were you with I?
One by one the people died.
I never heard the words you spoke.
Petals falling from an aging flower.
I never even smelled the smoke.
You took back your heart and thrust it into the hole.
The flower’s coming back to life.
I can’t find my heart, where did it go?
I thought that there would be an end to strife.
“Darling,” I said, “Please, I promise.”
When the floods started you began to doubt.
But the fire from your mouth told me “No.”
The water I cried made your fire fizzle out.
