Innocence
Remember when
things were easy and carefree
getting high was swinging in the park
caught in the act was mom seeing you sneak another cookie
getting shot just meant a visit to the doctor
being left behind was missing the school bus
a broken heart meant breaking grandma's vase
betryl was your friend not picking you first for kickball
the depths of despair was lossing your favorite toy
shooting up meant getting taller
the problem with boys and girls was catching cooties
race issues were about who ran the fastest war was only a card game
any wound could be healed with a little kiss
And what you wanted most in the world
was to grow up
