There You Go
You smiled, laughed, and walked away
From 4th hour class, on a Friday
And I knew, in my mind
It was the last time
I’d ever see you at school
But until that moment,
I didn’t realize life could be so cruel
So there you go, walking into your new life
So there you go, leaving me to take my own advice
You walk forward but I have to hang back
So many things unsaid, so many questions unasked
I have something to tell you, something you should know
But now, it’s too late. There you go.
I saw you with her, heard your voice, felt the pain
And I realized all I did was stupidity in vain
You have your beautiful future, your wonderful dream
And your beautiful story deserves someone more than me
Yeah, I know, when you leave, you’ll also leave her
But at that moment,
It broke my heart to see who you’d prefer
So there you go, walking into your new life
So there you go, leaving me to take my own advice
You walk forward but I have to hang back
So many things unsaid, so many questions unasked
I have something to tell you, something you should know
But now, it’s too late. There you go.
You live the life I’ve always dreamed of
And you’re still the boy I may actually love
I still feel your arms around me
Remember thinking “This is the dream, but not the reality.”
Even now, I understand you can’t wait around
But at that moment when you walked away,
I finally hit the ground
So there you go, walking into your new life
So there you go, leaving me to take my own advice
You walk forward but I have to hang back
So many things unsaid, so many questions unasked
I have something to tell you, something you should know
But now, it’s too late, its way too late.
Now you have to go.
