Promised Self-Enemies
Immaculately broken
He’s gotta hold on me
With words in his eyes
and pictures in his mouth
Of beautiful tales and dreams
Promised with crossed fingers
Behind the backs of reason
Blinded by craze
We’re branding one another
Mendacious to the other
Feelings and fears
Masking past with bliss
Self-enemies at their finest
Dubious towards progress
Swearing against those kisses
on the teeth of ‘just friends’
But the reasons keep running
The light is dimming
Intuition starts fleeting
The deceits keep coming
My eyes water at the bitter taste
Choking to swallow it down
The choice of fallacy and fiction
Or heart bleeding honesty
As I try to resist the lies
slipping from his lips
But they’re mingling on his tongue
And are caught between my teeth
