The Breakup
Today you said those words
I’ve been dreading
It’s just not going to work
You say to me
Our lives are too busy
Heart and head in a fog
We need to find ourselves
And I need to find out
What it’s like
To burn the bear you gave me
Along with my unrequited love
Though I wish I had you back
I understand your point of view
Finding ourselves is something that we need to do
Alone
Maybe as time goes on things might change
Once again
But
I don’t know how many chances
I have left to give out
And
I don’t know how much of my heart
I’d be willing to give
Knowing your track record
Of usually smashing them on the
Cold, hard, black pavement
Leaving me
To pick up the pieces of my now
Cold, hard, black heart
And put them back where they belong
As best as I can
Alone
