Right Back Where I Started
Most people would cover their
hearts with an iron shield by now.
But not me;
I leave mine wide open,
unprotected.
Every time I get hurt, I simply
dress the wound and move on.
Well, that’s what I used to do.
With you, it’s different.
Every time I try to heal my heart,
I see your smile,
And I’m back where I started.
Every time I go to stitch it up
I see you hug another girl
And I’m back where I started.
Every time I go to dress the wound, you gave me,
I remember.
I remember the comfort I found
curled up next to you listening
to you breathe.
I remember the nervous butterflies the first time I saw you.
I remember the thoughts running through my head, trying to block the tears, the night it ended.
And once again, I’m back where I started.
